Montreal Public Markets

Go to one of these big Montreal markets on a given weekend afternoon and you're likely to spot many locals hanging out amidst the scents of surrounding vendor produce, from grilled sausages to daisies. Fruits, vegetables, local cheese, meat, fish, seafood, maple products, baked goods and other local goodies are on hand at the following five big markets, with most open year round and with outdoor vendors on-hand from April through October.

Atwater Market
Hours: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday; 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Friday; 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sunday

Metro Markets
Conveniently located for commuters, these markets generally restrict produce to fruits, vegetables and some local products like maple butter and honey. Look out for one of Montreal's outdoor markets open from March or April to late October at:
