A Parc Jean-Drapeau Winter Activities Guide

Parc Jean-Drapeau Winter Activities
Parc Jean-Drapeau, Montreal's most eclectic attraction, used to be open only three weekends every winter as part of the annual snow festival Fête des Neiges, a shame considering the park’s double-island wonderland potential across seasons. But with the opening of North America’s first snow village in January 2012 on park soil, management changed its tune, extending the period of its winter offerings, proposing, among other attractions, the following free and paid activities 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every weekend from January 21 to March 11, 2012 as well as weekdays from March 5 to March 2012.

Note that activities are subject to weather constraints. Check Parc Jean-Drapeau conditions online before heading out to make sure your activity of choice is in operation the day of your visit.

1. Skating

This is arguably Montreal’s most picturesque skating area.

2. Dog Sledding

Since its introduction in January 2012, Montreal dog sledding is no longer a mythical activity on some forgotten wish list.

3. Tubing

Who doesn’t have a soft spot for tubing?

4. Cross Country Skiing

You either love it or get bored. Parc Jean-Drapeau is a little too level for my daredevil tastes but there are great trails for families.

5. Kicksledding

Think dog sledding. Minus the dogs.

6. Montreal Snow Village

You’ve never seen anything quite like this in North America.
