October in Montreal ... it's a month of frights and foliage, with Montreal's farmer's markets exploding with gorgeous produce as the city braces itself for colder months with a non-stop roster of festivals, events, and fall-themed fun.
1. Festivals and Highlights

If Halloween prep isn't enough to keep you occupied all month, then consider a few flicks at the Festival du nouveau cinéma, or a spooky ghost walk, maybe peek inside Montreal Fashion Week, or revisit oral traditions across the globe with week of tall tales and naughty stories courtesy of the Québec Intercultural Storytelling Festival. You could also fork over a couple hundred dollars to see Dubya talk about his presidential actions and the resulting consequences.
2. Music, Concerts, Live Shows

It's a fine, fine month for music with POP Montreal setting the tone, followed by blues man Keb' Mo' and iconic duo Sasha & Digweed. Sian Alice Group and The Hidden Cameras are indie best bets, Ryan Gosling gets creepy and campy with Dead Man's Bones, Jay-Z breezes through a couple of weeks post-Kiss followed by Airborne Toxic Event, Flogging Molly, Metric and soft spot of the month goes to Jamil. 3. Family and Community Events

Orange Julep's informal car shows are winding down with the temperature, Disney proposes 100 years of magic, there's a storytelling festival with several free events, I rounded up the best Halloween activities for the whole family, and fill your calendar with a slew of kid-approved attractions easy on the wallet, all held through October.

World Press Photo wraps up in October, making way for John William Waterhouse's Psyche and other works at the MMFA, the Montreal Science Centre IMAX reemerges from renovations with Under the Sea 3D and the spookiest museum in Montreal is hands down the Redpath.
