Every year since 2000, around the dreariest part of February, our fine city is lit up with the Montreal High Lights Festival, the Festival Montréal en Lumière. Easily the most anticipated winter event in town, the Montreal High Lights Festival lasts about ten days and the final day concludes with the very popular All-Nighter, la Nuit Blanche.

Celebration of Light: Free Events
Celebrating outdoors in the Old Port is a High Light tradition. And every year, Montreal High Lights' Celebration of Light activities are offered free of charge, attracting locals and tourists alike, for events such as:

  • fire breathing
  • fireworks
  • circus acts
  • street theatre
  • puppet shows
  • live musical performances
  • live DJs
  • outdoor dancing in a 20-foot sphere
  • sausage and marshmallow roasting
  • ice sliding
  • giant human foosball
  • winter tam tams
But I've barely scratched the surface! For more information on the Montreal High Lights Festival's many activities, performances and events, consult the Festival Montreal en Lumière website.
