Opened in 1983 and operated by the city of Montreal, the Centre d'Histoire de Montréal is one of Montreal's history museums and housed in what used to be a fire station dating back to 1903. With a collection of 2,500 historical artifacts as well as photographs and models, predominantly covering the 20th century, some exhibits go back as far as 1535.

The CHM derives its charm not only from its exhibits depicting Montreal's development over time as well as the museum building itself, but CHM's location -- in the heart of Old Montreal's Place d'Youville -- speaks volumes on Montreal's commercial past as a growing colony, just a stone's throw away from a slew of historical buildings and heritage sites, including Pointe-à-Callière, the birthplace of Montreal.

Permanent Exhibitions
Montréal, Five Times features Montreal in five different time frames, from first contact with First Nations in the 16th century to the cultural revolution of the 60s and 70s while Montréal of a Thousand Faces explores the city through the many eyes of its multicultural residents.

Temporary Exhibitions
Featuring a different facet of Montreal history, past temporary exhibits include Expo 67 - Passport to the World, Jazz - Swinging Nights in Montreal and The Eye of the City.

Virtual Museum
A few of the center's previously displayed temporary exhibitions are available online at the Centre d'Histoire de Montréal Virtual Museum.

Photography Contest: Montréal à l'Oeil
