This blood orange cocktail recipe is a creation of Toqué
mixologist Gilbert Lemieux. Accented with a sugary syrup infused with cloves, Lemieux's exclusive winter and comfort-inspired mix was concocted in part as an homage to grandmothers who spiced up their homes with orange peel and cloves, sprinkling their closets and those of their loved ones with the homemade potpourri.
Prep Time: 1 hour, 10 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour, 10 minutes
- 30 ml (1 oz) vodka
- 15 ml (1/2 oz) bourbon
- 45ml (1 1/2 oz) blood orange juice
- dash of Angostura Bitters
- 15 ml (1/2 oz) clove syrup
- 5 tbsp sugar (to make the clove syrup)
- 1 tbsp whole cloves
- 1 cup water (to make the clove syrup)
To make the clove syrup: combine sugar with cloves and water. Bring to a boil and then remove syrup from the heat. Let the cloves infuse in the syrup for one hour. Filter out the cloves with a strainer.
Combine 15 ml (1/2 oz) clove syrup with remaining ingredients (vodka, bourbon, blood orange juice, Angostura Bitters) and shake. Serve in a martini glass dressed with a slice of blood orange that's been soaking in the clove syrup.
