This blood orange cocktail recipe is a creation of Toqué mixologist Gilbert Lemieux. Accented with a sugary syrup infused with cloves, Lemieux's exclusive winter and comfort-inspired mix was concocted in part as an homage to grandmothers, or at least the ones who placed orange peel and cloves potpourri in select closets to give clothes a natural, refreshing scent.

Total Time: 1 hour, 10 minutes
Ingredients:
- 30 ml (1 oz) vodka
- 15 ml (1/2 oz) bourbon
- 45ml (1 1/2 oz) blood orange juice
- dash of Angostura Bitters
- 15 ml (1/2 oz) clove syrup
- 5 tbsp sugar (to make the clove syrup)
- 1 tbsp whole cloves
- 1 cup water (to make the clove syrup)
Preparation:
To make the clove syrup: combine sugar with cloves and water. Bring to a boil and then remove syrup from the heat. Let the cloves infuse in the syrup for one hour. Filter out the cloves with a strainer.
Combine 15 ml (1/2 oz) clove syrup with remaining ingredients (vodka, bourbon, blood orange juice, Angostura Bitters) and shake. Serve in a martini glass dressed with a slice of blood orange that's been soaking in the clove syrup.
