A fantastic volunteer-based resource in operation since 1984, Operation Red Nose (Opération Nez Rouge) offers a designated driver service (service de raccompagnement) completely free of charge to the driving public! But it's only offered in the month of December, in time for the onslaught of Christmas, New Year and other holiday-related festivities and bashes. And on particularly busy nights (like New Year's Eve), the wait time after placing a call can be as lengthy as several hours, which is a rather good incentive to call a taxi or sign up for an alternate designated driver service, especially for the other 11 months of the year.

It will cost you just over $70 for a two-year membership but the convenience of having someone drive your car home for you in addition to receiving generally prompt service and paying cheaper prices than taking a cab make signing up for Point Zero 8 designated driver services a no-brainer. While Point Zero 8 usually accepts non-member calls during most of the year (but they'll also tack on an extra $15 surcharge), they will only take member calls during the holiday rush in December. Also offer one-night designated driver services for parties and large events.
