SAQ Description: "This dry greenish yellow sparkling wine features medium fruity and vegetal scents and offers large and persistent bubbles. Food pairings: haddock and sole, either smoked or as tartare, sushi, sashimi, dry sausage."
In English: Crisp, dry, acidic and light with little aftertaste, this is the budget bubbly you buy for that friend or in-law who only drinks Champagne, if you get my drift. Just keep the bottle out of sight and they'll never know the difference. They might even prefer it to their regular brands. In a blind, Consumer Reports taste test with two wine experts, this Spanish sparkling wine, a blend of Macabeo and Parellada grapes made using the Champenoise method, which is the same, labor-intensive process employed by Champagne region producers, scored in the top 6 best sparkling wines and Champagnes, outranking the Moët & Chandons, Veuve Clicquots and Perrier Jouets of the Champagne world, the latter two who were, believe it or not, deemed of "variable quality." Noted for its nutty and creamy accents.
