An ongoing Canada Day feature/political hot potato since 1977, Montreal's Canada Day Parade is followed by free cake, free coffee and live entertainment offered at the tail end of the parade, at Place du Canada. All associated events are free. View Montreal Canada Parade photo gallery.

When: July 1, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: parade is on Ste. Catherine Street, from Fort to Peel, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and then afternoon activities take place at Place du Canada (map)

2. Canada Day at the Old Port: 2014 Edition

Fireworks, line dancing, inflatable games for kids and other activities are the usual mainstays of Canada Day festivities at the Old Port. Day-long event is free. Fireworks usually launch at 10:15 p.m.
