Montreal Jazz Festival 2013 lineup details have been trickling in since last November and earlier this morning, the 34th edition's first freebie came to light: none other than former Toronto resident Feist -- born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, she eventually moved to Calgary but it was in Toronto where her career really took off; her collaborations with Peaches and Gonzales were instrumental, no pun -- will open the Montreal Jazz Festival on June 28, 2013 at 9:30 p.m. on the fest's main stage on the grounds of Place des Festivals. Expect a massive crowd not unlike that of last year's opener with Rufus Wainwright, whose energy and charisma won me over in spite of my not being in the deepest loop on his career.

As for Feist, the last time the mainstream indie-esque troubadour graced the Jazz Fest was in 2005 and I had a chance to catch her live when she dropped by the Metropolis in January 2006 courtesy of a free ticket thrown my way. Can't say she was my cup of tea but I thought I'd give her a chance. Why not? It was free. I had the time.

Verdict? Not for me. Yes, she does have her quirky onstage charms but no, it wasn't enough to rope me in. In other words, if you dig her, then by all means, get to Place des Festivals at least an hour early and claim your spot up front. Happy concert-goer, you will be. Otherwise, skip this one. Her live shows aren't the kind to win converts. Place des Festivals' setup can be such a pain when crowds get this big and from experience, mark my words, if you're not thrilled with her songs now, you won't miraculously become a fan.

Running June 28 to July 7, 2013, expect more announcements to come as organizers continue to book the 2013 edition.
