Ben Roy and Godfrey aside, a certain pot smoker turned psilocybinist -- possibly vice versa -- hailing from South Carolina is one of the hottest revelations to hit the Montreal Just for Laughs comedy circuit in 2012.
His name is Rory Scovel. He's deadpan, he's twisted and he's completely absurd, whether scripted or off-the-cuff. And the southerner's entire performance, at least during last night's HBO Canada live recording, is delivered in a German accent solid enough to impress even my deceased Opa. Mind you, making Fritz a bowl of soup, discussing the latest Weekly World News headlines, and/or shutting the f**k up during an episode of World Wrestling lest you be branded dummkopf of the day was all it took to get Opa on your good side. But I digress.
Right, so I just couldn't stop laughing last night. Even when there was no punchline. Scovel left little time for the audience to recover from one hit to the next. And if you think he's funny on tape, just WAIT to see him live as he stares into your soul and warps your innards with his cool, clever, comedic manipulations.
