So when I got home, I insisted on doing a little research on George-Étienne and that angel statue on the mountain, because frankly, I can't remember learning squat about this guy in school.
Well, he's one of the founding fathers of Canada. And he's an interesting, if somewhat controversial man.

If you want to learn more about George-Étienne Cartier, I suggest the visit of his historical house in the old Montreal. This National Historic Site is operated by Parks Canada. This is probably the only Victorian House open to the public in Montreal. Cartier’s role in Confederation is often overlooked, and many people just don’t know he was the man who convinced the other Founding Fathers that there must be provinces in the new Dominion. A Canada without provinces would be a completely different country.

I wonder why he’s overlooked to that point. Sounds like I’m due for a visit to his house … thank you for the recommendation David!
