This Other Long Weekend in Montreal - Ladybug Launch, Free Jazz, More Fireworks
Musts ...
Ladybug Launch on Saturday
Bring your kids and come join Trixie and Maria at their new Mile End café, La Lumière, as they release over 4000 aphid-chomping ladybugs in the café gardens on Saturday, June 28, from 3 to 5 p.m. Trixie and Maria are also launching the first Jane Goodall Institute of Canada Roots & Shoots group in Montreal, a fantastic ecological program for kids and the community at large. Equitable coffee, organic teas blended expressly for the café and assorted goodies will be sold. Free aphid-inspired popsicles for the kids and an educational experience for the whole family are also in store, so call (514) 585-7453 for more information or just show up at 214 Bernard West, at de l'Esplanade.
Free Shows at the Jazz Fest
Hundreds of free shows over the next ten days ... plan ahead. Get a taste of what these musicians can do. Check out a tune by clicking on each performer/band name.
Fireworks Competition
Rain or shine, it's Italy's turn to compete on Saturday.
Maybes ...
Josh Wink at Piknic
Josh Wink's brand of be-patient-this-track-is-going-somewhere-I-swear trance is back ... but will it be enough to charm the weather gods? Also, don't miss the clothing exchange program on site, just bring some well-kept threads with you and swap them for someone else's garments.
Festifoot
All weekend and rather free. Might be a little muddy but die-hard world soccer fans won't care.
Prep for Canada Day
... with a history lesson! Brought to you by Susan Monroe, your About.com guide to Canada online.
Come back by Monday for some Canada Day activity suggestions. July events will be posted over the next few days but in the meantime, check out what's left to do in June in Montreal.
